The new Leica StereoZoom® S4E and S6- models already boast the largest available field of view for any instrument in their class at 36.5 mm. If additional field of view is needed, it can be obtained by adding a reducing supplemental objective to the stereomicroscope. For example, an S4E with 10x eyepieces and a 0.5x supplemental objective has a maximum field of view of 73mm. Keep in mind these general principles:
A.
Greater magnification results in a smaller field of view, conversely lesser magnification results in a larger field of view. This is true for eyepieces as well as supplemental objectives
B.
Reducing supplemental objective lens increase the effective working distance of the system in addition to increasing field of view. Be sure that you can still sit comfortably at the microscope and that the focusing column is long enough to accommodate the working distance when using reducing lens.
C.
Reducing supplemental objectives have lower numerical apertures (NA) and lower resolving power. Lower NA lens systems are not as efficient in gathering light from the specimen. Systems using reducing supplemental objectives will require greater illumination intensity to achieve a good image for you.
